The Beginning of a Legacy

Harold’s Chicken was founded by Harold Pierce, an African American entrepreneur from Chicago, in 1950. Harold and his wife Hilda started their journey on Chicago’s 39th Street, running a small restaurant called H&H where they served dumplings and chicken feet. During this time, Harold developed relationships with local business owners, including Gene Rosen, who owned a nearby poultry shop and supplied Harold with fresh chicken. This partnership helped lay the foundation for what would soon become a Chicago institution.

A Chicago Staple is Born

Harold’s Chicken Shack quickly became famous for its one-of-a-kind fried chicken, topped with signature mild and hot sauces. What began as a neighborhood favorite grew into a cultural landmark, known for bringing friends, families, and communities together over great food.

Today, Harold’s Chicken continues to honor that tradition. We proudly serve the same iconic recipes that started it all, staying true to Harold Pierce’s original vision while sharing his legacy with new generations and new communities.
